I ran across the above video and just had to share it. Produced by PBS, it is an awesome look at creativity, where it comes from, what it looks like, and how you can be more creative.
If you have 9 minutes to spare, you won’t be let down.
If you don’t have time to watch it now, the following bullet points highlight a few of the many topics covered in the video. I hope these are enough to get you to come back and watch the video when you have free time.
- Creativity is a process
- Be open.
- Creative ideas don’t have to be unique.
- You must expand you capacity for uncertainty.
- Don’t be afraid to mind wander.
- You can find creativity anywhere.
- Anyone can be creative.
- You can get beyond what you think is possible.
- You have to sit down an do the work!
Thank you for a great post. I will save and watch the video tonight when I have more time. I am currently writing a book about my son. I am a first time writer. I am a risk taker. I always go against the norm. I am attempting to write the book as if the reader is living my life from 1979 to 2006 experiencing all the emotions along with me, as apposed to just telling a story. A author/mentor friend is trying to discourage me from writing it this way. She feels it is very difficult to attempt and she feels my readers will not understand it. They are use to the traditional way of writing. However, this is why I want to write it my way because it is different and creative. I never have been a follower in my art as well. When I take an art class and all the students are following exactly what she is doing, I go in another direction. I will watch the video and hope to gain a better understanding of why I do what I do.
